Community Services

Responsibilities

The Saginaw Police Department is dedicated to providing a variety of services to our community. That commitment to service was strengthened in 2008 with the addition of a Citizens Police Academy (CPA) and again in 2018 when we introduced the Junior Police Academy. Our Community Services Unit is responsible for:

  • Conducting home and business inspections
  • Coordinating events such as:
    • Citizens Police Academy
    • National Night Out
    • Neighborhood watch
    • Safety fairs
  • Establishing crime prevention initiatives within the city

Citizens Police Academy (CPA)

The CPA is a 12-week program that allows police officers and citizens to interact in an informal setting. Classes meet for three hours, one night a week. Students are introduced to modern policing methods and strategies to better enhance their understanding of what we do. It also allows our officers to better know the community and understand their needs.

Covered Topics

  • Communications and records
  • Criminal investigations and crime scene search
  • Firearms safety - complete with a trip to the gun range
  • Patrol and traffic
  • Police administration - budgeting and personnel

The CPA is generally held twice a year, with classes beginning in February and September. For more information on the CPA or community services available to you, please contact Asst. Chief of Police Brandon Badovinac by email at bbadovinac@saginawpolice.org or via phone at 817-230-0371.
