Each
year, the Saginaw Fire Department organizes and conducts an Easter egg
hunt for children in the Saginaw area. This event has been held by the
Fire Department for the last 20-plus years and it seems that more and
more children participate each year. Approximately 700-plus children
have participated every year for the last three years. The event is
usually held on Saturday of the weekend preceding Easter weekend with
weather permitting. The location is the Southern end of Willow Creek
Park between W. McLeroy Blvd. and Longhorn Rd.
The “hunt” is divided into three age groups being 0 to 3, 4 to 6 and 7 to 10. All the children line up with tremendous anticipation in the three large predefined areas and await the starting “air horn” signal. Candy eggs along with special “prize eggs” are eagerly and quickly gathered. 700-plus excited children released at one time it truly a sight to see. If a participant is lucky enough to find one of the “prize eggs” it is redeemable for an age appropriate gift at the prize tables. The Easter Bunny also makes an annual appearance to hand out candy and pose for photos.
The event
is only made possible by the generous monetary donations of our local
business community who fund the entire event. Our department is
extremely appreciative of the continual support and assistance our
business community provides for our fire department community programs.
