Severe Weather Reminders...

SEVERE WEATHER & OUTDOOR WARNING SIREN INFO:  Learning to prepare for and respond to severe weather is a reality for those living in the North Texas region. When severe weather happens, it is imperative that an action plan is in place and every resident has a clear understanding of the Outdoor Early Warning Siren System. The following information describes several common severe weather situations and outlines the criteria the Saginaw Fire Department utilizes to implement the Outdoor Early Warning Siren System.  For more information, click here.

Severe weather can occur at any time of the year, but it is most common in the spring.  Awareness of weather conditions and weather watches/warnings are essential for our self-protection.

A WATCH message, issued by the National Weather Service, should be an alert that there is a possibility that severe weather can develop with little or no notice. This is an awareness message.

A WARNING, issued by the National Weather Service, is an action message. A warning is issued when storm spotters or the weather radar has an indication of severe weather that could affect Tarrant County. This is a message that requires immediate attention. For your own protection, turn to a local radio or television station to monitor weather conditions as they develop.

WARNING SIRENS - Outdoor warning sirens are another way of providing a "take cover" warning for citizens. The outdoor siren warning system is designed to provide an audible alert for citizens who may be outside when severe weather threatens. If you hear a warning siren signal, GO INSIDE IMMEDIATELY! Listen to local television or radio stations for more information.

RADIO/TELEVISION - Local radio and television stations are a good source of information for severe weather or other emergencies.  Know which stations provide local news and weather and tune to them during severe weather or other emergencies.

WEATHER ALERT RADIOS - We strongly suggest that every home and business have a weather radio. The radios provide a 24 hour service and are inexpensive, especially when one considers the valuable information it will provide during a weather emergency. Most electronic stores sell the units. The new units can be programmed to only receive warnings specific to Tarrant County. When purchasing a weather radio, look for one that operates on regular electrical service but has a battery back-up so warnings will be received during a power failure.
