John Ed Keeter Public Library

Debbie is the Assistant Library Director and Youth Services Librarian. That means she plans and implements all the programs for children and teens, like Storytime, outreach visits to local schools and daycares, video games with the teens, and SO much more. She also chooses the new children’s books and movies and helps parents and children find books and information.

Debbie grew up in this community, graduating from Boswell HS in 1976. She is married with four kids and one grandchild, Piper, who is four. Her favorite role in the world is being Piper’s “Mimi”. She grew up with four brothers, and has known since she was five that her life’s work would be working with children, as well as being a wife and mom. She was a preschool teacher before coming to work at the Saginaw Library 27 years ago.

Her favorite things about working at the Library are the children and families she serves. Debbie says: “I love being a product of the community that I serve. Personifying the “small town warmness” to those who walk through our Library doors is very important to me. I want the youngest of our patrons to learn the love of reading and lifelong love of books and the importance of a library in the community.”

Some of Debbie’s favorite authors are James Herriot, Sue Grafton, James Patterson, Jan Karon and Mary Higgins Clark. She also enjoys reading books for children; some of her favorites are Brown Bear, Brown Bear and The One and Only Ivan.
