White, Director of Public Services and Community Development |
The Public
Services Department consists of the Street, Drainage, Water/Sewer,
Environmental, Building Maintenance, Economic Development, Community
Development, and Fleet Maintenance Divisions.
This department's responsibilities include maintenance of streets
and drainage areas, maintenance and installation of traffic signs and barricades, and
providing support to other departments requiring the services of the department's
equipment and personnel. Services also provided by this department include the maintenance and operation of all
city-owned facilities and buildings, including minor remodeling and construction when
needed.
This department operates from the Service Center, located at 205
Brenda Lane, and is under the direction of the Public
Works Director.
Fleet Services
The Fleet Services
department is responsible for providing maintenance and repairs to all city vehicles and
motorized equipment. Approximately 90 pieces of equipment are maintained by this
department, utilizing up-to-date diagnostic and repair equipment.
This department is staffed with 2 full-time mechanics. All
contracted repairs are coordinated through this department.
Water/Sewer
Saginaw has an outstanding
water supply
system, utilizing one
24" and one 12" water supply main from the city of Fort Worth. Saginaw
also utilizes Fort Worth's sanitary sewer treatment facilities.
The Saginaw Water Department maintains a water supply system
following the guidelines set forth by the State Department of Health for human consumption
and fire safety. Staff monitors the distribution system through the use of a SCADA
(Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. Staff ensures adequate pressure
throughout the distribution system, maintains and repairs existing lines, installs new
lines, cleans pump sites, and maintains meters, boxes, and valves. Administrative
duties include: accurate records of distribution flow, quality assurance checks, and
reporting to State Health Department.
The Sewer Department services and repairs main lines and manholes in
the system. Staff maintains files and reports concerning sewer stoppages, citizen
complaints, and inspections of sewer mains and sewer manholes. Programs testing
industrial and commercial business discharge and pre-treatment of waste to insure proper
usage of the sewer system are currently in place. This requires testing and
completing forms as required by EPA and TNRCC. Sewer charges have been reduced by
the city of Fort Worth through the completion of an infiltration program. This
program isolates deficiencies in the system and makes the necessary repairs.
The Water and Sewer
Departments are based at the Saginaw Service Center, located at 205 Brenda Lane.
Water & Sewer rates are adjusted annually by
the City Council. For
billing questions, contact the Utility Billing
office at (817) 232-4640. Operational inquiries should be directed to the Water Superintendent at (817) 230-0448.
Environmental Department
What is the
Environmental
Department and what does it do? The Environmental Department regulates
many areas that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have identified to be of
concern to the environment. In order to keep pollutants and
contaminants out of our drinking water, streams, storm drains, and other
areas, the Environmental Department enforces these rules and regulations
set by state and federal laws.
The Environmental Department
regulates Stormwater, Industries, Businesses, Food Establishments,
Commercial Car Washes, Residential, and other areas. These storm
water links can give you ideas for things you can do to help.
