Welcome to the Environmental Department

What is the Environmental Department and what does it do?  The Environmental Department regulates many areas that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have identified to be of concern to the environment.  In order to keep pollutants and contaminants out of our drinking water, streams, storm drains, and other areas, the Environmental Department enforces these rules and regulations set by state and federal laws.

The Environmental Department regulates Stormwater, Industries, Businesses, Food Establishments, Commercial Car Washes, Residential, and other areas.  These storm water links can give you ideas for things you can do to help

What is SmartScape?  Check it out…Native plants use less water!!

Helpful Hints:

  • Outdoor Watering is restricted between the hours of 10am and 6pm.  When watering, water longer, less often.  This promotes deep roots for healthier grass, thus needing less water.  Less water, lower water bill!!!

  • Grass Clippings cannot be “blown” from your yard in accordance with the City’s Stormwater Ordinance.  Instead, mulch the grass.  It helps keep nutrients on the lawn which helps to maintain a strong root system.

  • Tired of paying for a plumber to unclog your sewer line?  Try this, don’t use your garbage disposal, use your trash can.  Grease left over?  Pour leftover grease into a container and save it for later use, or, let it get solid, and then simply throw it away!!!  Excess food particles and grease in your sewer lines WILL clog your lines.
