The City of Saginaw Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of Joseph Laster to our staff in the role of Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC). Mr. Laster began his new role as EMC on September 14, 2020.
Mr. Laster was previously a Peace Officer with the City of Kennedale Police Department for approximately six years. Mr. Laster is a US Army Veteran serving as a military police officer and completing two overseas service tours, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Korean Defense Service. Mr. Laster possesses a Bachelor’s degree in University Studies, a Master’s degree in Public Administration and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Administration and Planning. He is happily married to his wife Amber and has two boys, ages 8 and 4.
“We are excited to have Joseph join our department in the role of EMC. He is an outstanding individual and I am confident he will have an immediate impact increasing the safety of our community,” states Fire Chief Spears.
Emergency Management Coordinator is a new position for the City of Saginaw and is actually the result of a partnership with the City of Lake Worth. “The role of the EMC is very similar from jurisdiction to jurisdiction so the EMC position was a perfect opportunity for both cities to create and fund the position equally as a shared resource. The sharing and combining of resources is something fire departments are judiciously accustomed to,” states Fire Chief Spears. EMC Laster’s work effort and time will be distributed equitably between the two cities.
