On February 5, 2019 the Saginaw City Council approved Ordinance No. 2019-02, Calling a Special Election to be held on May 4, 2019 for the purposes of submitting to the voters multiple propositions to amend the Saginaw Home Rule Charter.
In April 2018, the City Council appointed a citizen’s Charter Review Commission to review the City Charter and make recommendations for any changes to the City Council. The Commission held multiple meetings and completed their review. Their recommendations were presented at the City Council Meeting on December 4, 2018 and discussed in detail at the January 2, 2019 City Council Meeting. Ordinance No. 2019-02 calls the Special Election on May 4, 2019 for voters to consider the proposed amendments.
Attached are links to the approved ballot language and a red-lined copy of the City Charter showing the proposed changes, additions and deletions. The City will hold a public meeting at a later date where the City Attorney will be available to review the proposed changes and answer any questions the citizens may have.
