Overview
Emergency medical incidents make up the majority of the calls to which the Fire Department responds. For over 25 years, the Saginaw Fire Department has been providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical services (EMS) to our citizens. ALS is the highest level of prehospital care that can be delivered. All 27 personnel, including the fire chief, are trained and certified as paramedics, enabling us to deliver the highest level of prehospital care to our citizens and visitors.
Currently the Saginaw Fire Department operates under an ALS first-responder system. The Fire Department responds to all emergency medical calls within our city to provide initial advanced medical treatment to a patient. Transport to the hospital is provided by a third-party service, Medstar. Each of our fire apparatus is equipped with the same ALS EMS equipment and supplies as an ambulance. Through the use of advanced medical treatment and our quick and professional response, we make every effort to ensure the best possible outcomes for our citizens experiencing a medical emergency.
